orca-islands-viewWhile the turn of the year signifies many things, it is perhaps most famously associated with new beginnings. Inevitably, people all over the world plan to change things come 2021, and this year figures to be no different. While travel plans and dream destinations might look a little different than usual due to COVID-19, there are still plenty of ways to craft your 2021 travel bucket list without breaking quarantine protocols or CDC guidelines. Without further ado, here are a few of our favorite yurt destinations for the New Year.

The Be Well Yurt

Can you imagine a more fitting title for this yurt in 2021? After a tumultuous year, The Be Well Yurt is the eco-luxe retreat of your dreams. This idyllic Pacific Yurt is located on Strawberry Creek in Idyllwild-Pine Cove, California, and provides guests a scenic, natural experience with a pampered, upscale feel.

Despite its outdoorsy location, this yurt is more like a spa than a camping destination, as it’s replete with 100% cotton linens, a Tempurpedic Memory Foam Mattress, creekside deck, skylight dome, hammock, and a private full bathroom just steps away featuring organic bath and body products. This little Airbnb in paradise is the perfect place to kick off 2021 with some self care in the quiet woods of the San Jacinto Mountains.

Launch Pointe Yurts

Launch Pointe Yurts is located on the beautiful and scenic Lake Elsinore in Lake Elsinore, California. The camping-centric Launch Pointe Resort includes six different yurts on the property, each with an adventurous theme that allows for guests to completely customize their glamping experience. Make your New Years’ vacation a domestic tropical hideaway in The Bora Bora yurt, live like a rockstar for a weekend in the Rock & Roll yurt, or cozy up to lakeside views in the Beach Yurt, a couples yurt designed with both lakeviews and a tropical-themed sitting porch. No matter what type of yurt you choose, Launch Pointe Yurts has the ideal setting in which you can relax. Just don’t forget to pack your swimsuit!

The Grand Yurt (Au Train Campground)

If you’ve never had the chance to visit Michigan’s Upper Peninsula in the wintertime, then it’s time to add it to your New Year’s bucket list. In addition to the sprawling beauty of the Great Lakes and the rich history of the region, the Au Train Campground offers a Pacific Yurt experience unlike any other in the upper midwest.

Northern-lightsThe Grand Yurt experience at Au Train is built for groups of friends or large families to glamp with full access to the glorious Lake Superior and winter activities galore for an average price of just $33 per person. With capacity for up to eight people, the Grand Yurt is a 20’ Pacific Yurt that offers large groups the unprecedented chance to camp in close proximity Lake Superior while also having their own private space to escape the chill and cook s’mores over a toasty campfire. Or, better yet, go for a late winter’s snowshoe in the Hiawatha National Forest, and savor the chance to catch a rare glimpse of the Northern Lights! If your New Years’ resolution includes finally getting your friends together for a COVID-conscious, socially-distanced winter adventure, then The Grand Yurt at Au Train Campground is the place for you.

Kennedy Memorial Park

As many create their New Year’s travel plans with coronavirus in mind, alternative, less-visited destinations are expected to rise in popularity. Kennedy Memorial Park is one such destination. Located in Fort Dodge, Iowa, this off-the-beaten-path outdoor mecca offers adventurous travelers a safe place to explore the local scenery and learn about the fascinating history of the midwest. The campground offers two of our very favorite Pacific Yurts, Mulligan’s Yurt and the Rod & Reel Yurt, each of which provide rustic yet comfortable accommodations including a sofa, bunk bed, full-size picnic table, and kitchenette featuring a full-size refrigerator. Winter visitors to Kennedy Memorial Park can try their hand at ice fishing, snowshoeing, or cross country skiing on any of Kennedy Memorial’s idyllic trails. Kids and families can also enjoy sledding down the park’s hilly terrain. Between the accommodations, the outdoor space, and the compelling history of Fort Dodge, Kennedy Memorial Park is the perfect way to celebrate the New Year in style.

Lawson Adventure Park

Tucked away in the iconic Rocky Mountains are the yurts at Lawson Adventure Park, a group of five yurts, each with a different sleeping layout to accommodate a variety of guests and groups. While the yurts are not equipped with running water or electricity, lanterns and gas heaters are provided for visitors during the winter months, along with access to a communal restroom and shower facilities. If you plan to visit on or around New Years’ Day, there’s a good chance you’ll find knee deep snow and a slew of the best activities the winter has to offer, from guided snowshoeing to St. Mary’s Glacier to skiing at the world-famous Loveland Pass (just 20 minutes from Lawson Adventure Park). Take advantage of this centrally-located winter camp and make this your most adventurous New Year yet!
